Key Largo Part 1

My family and I headed to Key Largo for a week for my dear cousin's wedding. We rented a beach house and soaked up family time (& the sun!)

My Dad, Mom, Erica, Jeff & I flew in Saturday to Miami. We then rented a car and drove about an hour south to Key Largo. We checked out the house (that I did a great job picking out) and went to dinner. (Shh... that night I got my family to sit down and watch Justin Bieber's movie with me... shh....don't tell anyone)

Sunday we went to John Pennekamp State Park right down the road from us. We rented kayaks for a couple hours and got a good exercise in. Dad & Mom rode in a double, Erica & I rode in a double and Jeff led us in a single. We then went to the beach and rented snorkeling equipment. We swam right off the beach there and got to see lots of cool fishies. That night we met up with and had dinner with Uncle Ted, Aunt Kathy and the Bride-To-Be Alison! Great first day to our family vacation!
Ready to try kayaking

They got a hold of it way before Erica and I

Our boat was named "Birthday"

Good looking bunch :)

Monday we drove up to Miami to visit the Sea Aquarium. It was smaller than Sea World but a LOT less crowded, so we got to do a lot more stuff. The highlights were: the sea lion show, the killer whale & dolphin show, and feeding the sting rays. After the Aquarium we drove around South Beach and downtown Miami. Jeff got to see where the Heat play and Erica got to go in the store Dash (owned by the Kardashians.) That night we had another great family dinner at a restaurant called Sundowners and got to watch an amazing sunset!

Mom cooling off in the misters!

I have no idea how they were both so tan on day 2!

The sea lion show! We decided to sit in the splash zone :)

Tuesday was hang out at our pool day! What could be more relaxing? That afternoon we went a Wildlife Bird Sanctuary (guess who's idea was that?) It was fascinating to see all these birds that had been rescued living in such a natural habitat. We made it just in time for the pelican feeding. These birds are wild, but come to the sanctuary every afternoon to get fed. They were EVERYWHERE! We went out to eat with Bob Gali (close family friend) and then got the house ready for Emily & Bryan since they were coming in that night!

Tune in for the next couple blogs to finish the trip :)
