Mallory's ballet class had been preparing all spring for their big recital and as the time got closer and closer Mallory was growing more and more resistant to go to ballet class. So when the recital rolled around I wasn't sure what her reaction was going to be. It was in Rudder theatre on campus (which is HUGE) and they were expecting around 500 adults in the audience. I tried to mentally pump her up as much as possible and let her know what to expect. They were doing a tap dance to "Bippity Boppity Boo" from Cinderella and then a ballet dance to "The Mouse Song" from Cinderella and they were all dressed up as little mice! That morning she was really excited and she got even more excited when we started putting her hair in a bun and putting make up on! I took her backstage to get ready with her class while Miles and Daddy went and got a seat in the audience. The backstage area was CRAZY and sensory overload even for me! So she got really quiet and didn't want me to leave her but she was still in good spirits! So I walked with her to the side of the stage and then she told me it was OK to leave her so I could watch her first dance. Well..... she did AMAZING!!! She was one of the only girls not watching the teacher for directions and she knew exactly what to do. I ran back stage after the first dance to help her change her shoes and she already had her dance bag in her hand and told me she didn't need any help. I told her she did AMAZING and she had the biggest smile and her face and said she was excited to do the next dance! Then she did her ballet routine and again was AMAZING!! I went back after her second routine to pick her up and she just seemed so in her element! We left the backstage area to meet Daddy and Miles and Miles presented her with flowers! She exceeded our expectations amazingly by her confidence! We are SO proud of her! Her name was also mentioned in the special section of "Outstanding Students!!!" She is already asking when dance starts again in the fall :)
