Mission Possible: Potty Training!
We approached potty training very very laid back. We decided with doing 2 at one time the best way was to just have them tell us when they were ready. We had set up little potties (a blue one and a pink one) in their bathroom since they were about 18 months old. We would have them sit on them every night after we took their clothes off for bath time- but never forced it. It was around March or April that they were interested in wearing underwear so we would have them wear them for half the day either before or after nap. If we had a busy day planned they would wear diapers all day. They got to the point where they would ask us every time they had to go pee "Do I have a diaper on?" So then we knew they definetly had control and knew what they were doing. We did a lot of traveling this summer so we got lazy about actively putting underwear on them everyday- but when they did have it on they did GREAT! I could count on one hand the number of times they had an accident combined. Their favorite it peeing in the grass- thanks to their daddy :) Mallory can squat with the best of them and uses a leaf to wipe and Miles strageically leans up against a wall and 'shakes' when he is done. Well one of the stipulations for Day School was that they needed to be potty trained. We knew they were but we hadn't officially declared it or officially cut off diapers- but now it was time! They have ROCKED it!!! They have an extra pair of clothes at school they haven't used once! They love going on their baby potties and then dumping them into the big potty to flush. They also get excited when they go poop because we use wipes on their bottoms. We have a seat adapter on one of the big potties and they love to use that too. Miles likes to use toliet paper everytime he pees but Mallory refuses to get it for him insisting that he 'shake his pee pee.' They are also great at going bathroom out in public. Mallory was originally was a little paranoid about asking if each potty was 'loud' meaning when it flushed. But has gotten over it :) They also LOVE to sit on their potties and poop at the same time. You know what they say "Twins that poop together stay together!" So I don't know the day that we declared it official that they are potty trained- but they ARE! They still wear diapers during the night but 95% of the time wake up with completely dry diapers. Way to go Miles & Mallory ya'll are potty trained rock stars!!
