I got a wild whim and decided it would be fun to try camping as a family (I have never camped a day in my life) and rent a camper! So it took a lot of ducks to get in a row to rent a spot, rent a camper and avoid a home football game but we did it!
We picked Huntsville State Park because it was nice and close and it worked great! Jeff went and picked the camper up Saturday morning and after an early lunch we got on the road. Jeff had a less than deseriable ride to the park because of it being so windy but the kids, Mila and I took the mini van and had a good ride :) After we got settled into our place and played around in the camper for a a while we took a hike. Grandma and Grandpa Hodges came to visit and went on the hike with us. The kids LOVED the hike and found a new walking stick to use every 10 ft. After the hike we stopped at the playground for a while. Then it was time to start thinking about dinner so Mallory and I watched while Jeff and Miles collected wood and tended to the fire. After the fire was made the kids and I played hide and go seek in the woods next to our campsite for over an hour while Jeff tended to the fire. Then it was time to cook hot dogs and soon after smores- all which were a great success! After dinner they rode their bikes and we went fishing. We didn't have any luck but had a great time! By then it was getting dark so we played some board games in the camper! Then before the night was over we went on a walk around the camp ground to see all the lights everyone had put up. While we were walking by the water we found an alligator!! The kids plus Jeff were enamored and we stayed there for at least 30 minutes just staring at the below the deck. That night no one slept great because a big storm came through and it was "fall back" so Mallory got up around 5:30 in the morning. As soon as we were all up (around 5:35) it was still raining pretty hard so we packed everything up and headed back on the road. The kids had an amazing time and we look forward to doing it again soon!!
