How in the world did we survive the first year of having twins? It was magical, stressful, amazing and exhausting all at the same time! I can't say I would sign up to have twins again- but man it is SO worth it!!
We decided to have a very informal get together with family to celebrate their birthday (on their actual birthday!) It was a great day and an even better evening of celebrating the two most amazing babies EVER! The one of the most exciting things that happened was their Aunt Anna and Uncle Nathan came ALL the way from Australia for their birthday! They had not seen the babies in person since they were 4 months old- boy had they changed!! The other people at the party were: Grandpa and Grandma Hodges, Emily, Bryan, Erica, Papa Non and Mimi, (Jackie had to stay at the hotel with Mark because he was sick ), Anna, Nathan, Mr & Mrs Tabb, and Mark and Amy! We all held and loved on the babies and ate pizza!
The cake eating/smashing for the babies was pretty uneventful. Miles did not take a very good nap during the day so he was Mr. grumpy pants and really wanted no part of his birthday cake- we might have been excited parents and forced it anyways :) Mallory was going through a phase of wanting to feed herself so of course the little princess wanted to feed herself her cake with a spoon- such a lady!
Since I didn't throw a big party I wanted to do something special so I decided to create a time capsule for them that they will be able to open on their 18th birthday. I decided to put out notecards and have all of our family write downs their hopes, prayers, advice, or dreams for each Miles and Mallory :) Some of the other things it includes: handprint from 1 year, map of College Station, newspaper from their 1 year birthday, a cd of popular songs, pictures from the party, a magazine from the week of their birthday and a letter from their mom and dad :)
That night I rocked them to sleep and made sure it was just me and the babies at 8:33 and 8:34pm which was the exact time they were born a year ago. I held their sleeping bodies and squeezed them so tight! I truly am so blessed that God choose us to be their parents and I cherish EVERY second I have with them :)
