After a challenging summer of the twins being official "Three-nagers" we figured it might be good for them to learn how to listen to other people besides Mom &Dad and give Mom &Dad a little break. Well it was a HUGE decision that Mom put off for a long time for several reasons: not wanting to believe my babies are growing up, I wanted to spend all my time off of work with them, it was expensive and it was early in the morning. Well Jeff kept encouraging me to sign them up so I reluctently called several MDOs in College Station and they were all full back in Feburary- and almost laughed when I asked if they had openings for two 3 year olds. Well ONE school did tell me they had openings but I continued to drag my feet because I wasn't ready to let me kiddos grow up. Well the MDO kept calling me and leaving messages about if I was still interested and wanted to know if I wanted to meet her for a tour of the facility. So I obliged and I LOVED it! Well I then continued to drag my feet and I after deciding I was going to cut back on work I decided spending $20 an hour for someone else to watch my kiddos wasn't realistic. So I called and let her know we wouldn't be signing up and then she offered me 2 for the price of 1!!! My bargaining self could not pass this up and I also felt like it was pretty clear God was telling me what I needed to do- I just kept not listening. So 1 week before they were to start I filled out the paperwork and paid the deposit! Covenant Presbyterian Day School here we come!!
One of the things I loved about this program was how they seemed to really ease the kids into the transition- which heavens know my little clingy twins needed all the help they could get. So the week before their teacher came to our house to meet them and read a book to them. It was then that we got to meet Mrs. Whileyman! Mallory warmed up immediately and answered her questions and sat next to her while she read some books while my precious precious Miles clung tight to his mama.
The Monday (Aug 29th) before they started they had an hour open house in the morning where kids and parents were suppose to come and get acquainted with each other and the class room. Miles and Mallory had a GREAT time!! They loved all the new toys however they wanted me to sit next to them for everything that they did. There is 5 other kiddos in their class and we got to meet all their parents too!
Tuesday morning (Aug 30th) we woke the kids up around 7:45 and they were excited to go back to school (because they thought we were coming with them.) Well we did have a little problem in that we couldn't find Mallory's tennis shoes anywhere (and they ask that the kids wear closed toe shoes) so no big deal we will just use her back up pair of shoes.... wrong.... they were too small. So the last option was send her to school with socks and crocs on or a pair of her brother's tennis shoes. Despite her father's opinion we sent her to school with boy shoes on- ooppps!
They both sat down immediately at a table to play with playdoh. We sat and played with them for a bit and then we kissed them good bye and the screaming started from both of them. Luckily there are 2 teachers one to hold each of them while they were kicking and screaming. That was the longest 2 hours and 45 minutes ever and I sat at the house in prayer the whole time asking God to bring them peace and let them have fun! I showed up 15 minutes early for pick up just so I knew I would be the first mom and to my surprise NO ONE was crying! So they hoped in the car and I gave them each 2 suckers and they told me what they did all day- it was precious!
Thursday quickly came and they both got up that morning almost excited to go back to school. (We bought Mallory a new pair of girl tennis shoes and we found her other pair in a drawer underneath the dryer with a pom-pom!) When we dropped them off Miles started crying but Mallory did great! Again they were excited when I picked them up and they told me all about their friends, the songs they sang, the 'resting' time on the towel, and their class hamster!
Knock on wood but I was SO pleased with how well the kiddos adjusted and embraced the change :) Have I mentioned they are perfect? I am sure Mrs. Whileyman already has figured that out :)
